In celebration of Vlisco 170th anniversary, the Dutch wax brand pays tribute to all African women who have always cherished and adored its fabrics.
As part of the celebration, Vlisco asked 8 women from 6 different countries in Central and West Africa to be the faces of the 170 Years campaign. Including the world famous, Grammy winning African singer Angelique Kidjo.
The celebration also included a runway fashion show which rool place on the 18th of September at the Vlisco’s headquarters in Helmond, Netherland.
Renowned fashion designer Lanre Da Silva-Ajayi (LDA) was one of the designers that showcased special collections in grand style!
LDA’s 10-piece capsule collection was characterized by catchy Vlisco Ankara prints mixed with Swarovski embellishments, velvety, chiffon prints and metallic mirrored fabrics.
The cut of each piece ranging from dresses, skirts, tops, coulottes can be best described as “Avant-Garde”.
Vlisco’s story began in 1846, when founder Pieter Fentener van Vlissingen started the company in the Netherlands. Certainly, Vlisco’s founder would be very pleased to see that its crafted textiles, known as Wax Hollandais, are so cherished and beloved in West and Central Africa still today.
